ANTONY is on the brink of becoming an £84million Manchester United signing.
The Old Trafford club are understood to have met Ajax’s huge asking price for the Brazil winger, 22, who has been a summer-long target of new United boss Erik ten Hag.
The Prem giants are confident they can get a deal over the line with a down-payment of £74m, plus a further £10m in potential add-ons.
It will bring United’s summer spending to a colossal £205.2m after their capture of Brazil midfielder Casemiro for £60m from Real Madrid.
They also got Argentine centre-half Lisandro Martinez for £48.3m from Ajax and Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia for £12.9m from Feyenoord.
The club also snapped-up free-agent Christian Eriksen as well.
Antony’s total fee is just £1m less than United’s club-record £85m for defender Harry Maguire.
But United have not stopped splashing out yet.
Former Ajax boss Ten Hag plans to spend even more and go Dutch again - having also targeted PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.
The star, 23, is valued at £42m.
Ten Hag also wants Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, 32, as cover for David de Gea but has been in talks with Newcastle's Martin Dubravka after being outpriced by the German side.
United defender Eric Bailly signed for Marseille in a loan deal for £8.4m and a potential transfer fee at the end of the season of £6m.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who cost £45m from Crystal Palace, could head back there on loan.
